JUDSON PIERCE

ARLINGTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE

I first met Judson Pierce three years ago when he first ran for School Committee. I was very impressed with him and not just for his intelligence and sense of humor but because of his thoughtfulness, his ability to listen and his respect for other people and their views.

He also possesses mediation and negotiation skills, which could be helpful in bringing together different groups of people in productive decision making procedures.

Judson values the education of the “whole” child. Arlington is struggling to hold onto many of its programs and cannot afford to just continue in the same manner as we have in the past. If Arlington wants to keep a holistic approach to education, then new ways must be found to continue these assets.  I believe Judson has the zeal, vision and skills for this job.

Please join me in voting for Judson Pierce for School Committee on Saturday, April 10. —

Like any board facing tough decisions and tight budgets, our School Committee needs thoughtful, rational members who have the skills to handle complex issues and the ability to hear and honor differing views.

That’s why I’m supporting Judson Pierce for School Committee.

Jud is an experienced attorney whose practice includes mediation and negotiation as well as trial work.  He understands the importance of hearing all viewpoints, and knows how to get to consensus among them.

Jud also has the analytical skills to work through the complexities of municipal budgets, contribute to the debate over how to allocate scarce resources, and find new and creative solutions to the fiscal crunch we face.

We also need our School Committee members to be passionate advocates for our schools, and I know that Jud has a strong personal commitment to our community and its schools, with the first of his two children now at Bishop and looking forward to many years of excellent public education in Arlington.

Please join me in supporting Jud Pierce for School Committee.

To the Editor,

We are writing in support of Judson Pierce’s candidacy for School Committee. As long time residents of Arlington whose two children graduated from its public schools, we believe public schools are one of the most important resources of our – or any – town.

Although our two children have long graduated from the Arlington Public Schools we remain committed to ensuring that the children of today and coming generations are provided with excellent educations that prepare them for the future. One of the important factors in making sure that the schools move forward, particularly in these trying times, is a School Committee that works together as a team, and is responsive to the community, students, teachers, and administrators. We believe that Jud has what it takes to make this happen. His intelligent, thoughtful , and analytical approach will be an asset in working with other members of the School Committee. Since Jud’s initial candidacy for School Committee he has worked hard to learn about the school system and become increasingly involved in Arlington. Jud has shown not only the commitment to keep Arlington schools at a high level, but demonstrated the willingness to work toward that goal. As a member of the Arlington Human Rights Commission and in his professional life, Jud has shown the positive, can-do attitude that will serve him well as a school committee member. We urge you to vote for Jud Pierce for School Committee on April 10.

Sincerely,

Sharon and Irwin Grossman

Dear Arlington residents,
School Committee should be about Students First, right?
What do we need on the Arlington School Committee?
A team player, an honest person with integrity and a passion for education.  Someone who can put students’ needs first, despite the distractions of rough financial waters, political stalemates, and management challenges.
Jud Pierce demonstrates how good people skills and deep personal commitment can be combined to create an attitude of constructive contribution to a group effort.    And our School Committee work certainly requires sustained patience with group dynamics, as well as a consistent focus on Students First.   Jud respects the history of excellence in the Arlington Schools, and is working to maintain that tradition for his own children’s school community.
What can YOU do to make a difference in the Arlington School District?
Vote in the coming election on April 10 (Saturday), or vote earlier with an absentee ballot if you are unable to get to the polls on April 10.
Vote for someone who exemplifies the values and” stick-to-It” attitude you know we need.
Vote Jud Pierce for School Committee.

To the Editor,

I have known Jud Pierce since he joined the Human Rights Commission two years ago.  During that time, I have been consistently impressed with Jud's intelligence, thoughtful approach to problem-solving, and his commitment to take on a project and follow through to the end. He came to the Commission with ideals and ideas, and immediately became involved. These are all qualities that will make him a valuable asset to the Arlington School Committee.

I believe Jud Pierce is a man who makes things happen, and will be a consensus-building, productive member of the Arlington School Committee at a time when collaboration and creative thinking are critical.  He has proved to me that he truly cares about the town in which he and his family live.  I encourage you to join me in casting one of your votes for him on April 10.

To the Editor,

I am voting for Judson Pierce for School Committee. Judson Pierce cares about education in Arlington. He is respectful of the long tradition of excellence in the Arlington Schools and he wants to continue that tradition. Jud and his wife, Laura, have two children – one at Bishop and a pre-schooler. His family is just beginning its journey through the Arlington schools, and he is dedicated to making the education of all Arlington students a priority. He is committed to a 21st century education that engages the whole child –academics, arts, and athletics -- and prepares Arlington students to become productive and educated citizens.

Jud is thoughtful and respectful of different opinions. He believes in consensus and team work to solve problems and develop policy. As a lawyer he has developed experience as a negotiator and lobbyist. He has the skills to work effectively with all members of the School Committee, the teachers’ union, and the new superintendent. Furthermore he will seek creative and innovative approaches to solving the recurrent school budget problems in Arlington.

Most importantly, Jud is committed to the number one priority of the Arlington schools and School Committee - educating our children.

Please join me in voting for Judson Pierce for School Committee on April 10, 2010.

Thank you,

Jane Biondi

Please join me in voting for Jud Pierce for the Arlington School Committee on Saturday, April 10 th. Jud is relatively new to Arlington politics but has unique experience that will serve him and our community well as a school committee member. Dear Arlington Advocate,

I am a local musician with 2 children at the Ottoson Middle school. In a difficult time like now with our budget crises and a law suit pending, it is very important to get the right person to the school Committee.  That is why I am supporting Judson Pierce.     Having an attorney that is use to mediation, I believe it would be a great addition for the SC. .He is also a musician and actor and I am sure he will be supportive of all the art and music programs on our public schools. Judson is enthusiastic, organized, smart, great with numbers and a fresh new face for the SC. He is a father of 2 young kids having the oldest in Kindergarten. Dear Editor:

I am writing to endorse the candidacy of my friend and neighbor, Judson Pierce, for School Committee.  Having known Jud and his family for years, I have always been impressed with his knowledge, sound judgment, and passion.  I've listened to his ideas and opinions on ways to enhance the school experience for the students, educators, and parents of Arlington, and believe his proposals could benefit the entire community.

Jud is the recipient of a Massachusetts public education and graduate of Suffolk Law School.  As the father of two young children, he wants to work to ensure his children have the same opportunities, and are instilled with the same love of learning, that was afforded to him.

He understands the challenges facing the Committee, and the Town, in providing the highest level of education possible with limited financial resources.  He is an honest, intelligent man that would bring a level-headed approach to working towards solutions to the problems we face.

I am proud to have Jud as my friend, and am pleased to support him in his bid for a seat on the School Committee.  I hope you'll join me in casting one of your School Committee votes for Judson Pierce on April 10.
